The Story of William Hill Estate Winery:
In 1978, vineyard developer William Hill founded the namesake William Hill Estate Winery. After making a pilgrimage to Europe, specifically Burgundy, in the early 1970s, he became enamored with wine, came to the Napa Valley, realized the Silverado Bench's potential, and built the winery. The winery prides itself on its award-winning Chardonnays and Bordeaux-Blend wines.
Since Mr. Hill sold the winery in 1992, the winey had a number of different owners. E & J Gallo has owned the property since 2007. Mark Williams, the current winemaker, is keeping with the tradition started by Mr. Hill of crisp Chardonnays with a bit of apple, oak, and butter and rich Cabernet Sauvignon blends. William Hill Estate Winery is particularly known for its stellar Chardonnays (we seem to always have a bottle at hand) and Bordeaux-style red wines.
Why William Hill Estate Winery Made The Grade:
William Hill Estate Winery makes good wine, consistently good wine. Accessibility (you can pick up a bottle in several different retail outlets), excellent value for the money, and very affordable and great quality make William Hill wines a popular choice. It's pretty easy to pair with other food, but it's a great sipping wine. There's also the fun factor; I included this winery in this group because it's a fun place to visit!
Like all of the wineries presented in this series of blogs, the winery makes a number of different types of wines. Bring any red wine lovers in your posse because their red wines are worth a sip.
Ambiance:
With beautiful vistas and gardens to wander through, it's easy to see why this is a popular stop. Located just south of the Stag's Leap District in Napa, the winery covers around 200 acres at the foot of Atlas Peak. Perched on a hill overlooking the Napa Valley, visitors are treated to comfy Adirondack chairs to contemplate the remarkable views. Their breezy modern tasting room for sampling their amazing Chardonnays completes the picture.
Which Winery Visitor Type Would Love It :
Casual wine drinkers will enjoy this winery for its laid-back approach to wine tasting. Frankly, it's such an inviting spot, with incomparable views, that everyone would enjoy it.
This is the last blog of the series!
