An Ode To Code

Last Tuesday was one of the saddest days of my life….Cody, our miniature pinscher mix dog, died. Cody served as a goodwill ambassdor for the Wine By Appointment team. He accompanied me on many of my winery sojourns so it's only fitting that he is memoralized in a blog.

Cody, an alumni of Marin Human Society, came into our lives at 9 months, originally as a lure for a special eight-year old girl to visit us more frequently.  But he quickly became much more than that.  Too smart for his own good, Cody alternately charmed and bedeviled us.  With his escapades he terrorized our cat, Inspector Clouseau but ultimately won his heart over too.  For fifteen years, Cody was a confidante, a witness to tears and joys, and most of all a good friend.  Our hearts are breaking.

I don’t know if I believe in an afterlife…but I desperately hope there is one for beloved pets.  It would bring me great comfort to know that Cody has been reunited with his great pal, Clouseau, whom he mourned for months.  I’d like to think they're enjoying their favorite pastime, lazing in the sun together.

Goodbye, good boy.
